Whenever we reflect on how we feel and think about a piece of art, it always shows us how we feel about certain parts of ourselves.
We can be very triggered for example, by red.
This society has deemed red extreme, intense, even angry, and violent.
Ok maybe this isn’t true for many people, but it used to feel that way for me.
I was also quite intimidated by my anger; I thought it should stay put under layers of conditioning to remain polite. Only sometimes I couldn’t contain it and sometimes it translated into feeling numb and other times, utterly hopeless.
How many women have been told to stop being angry and to just calm down? Reality is we aren’t human if we don’t feel any anger. If someone steps into your space, anger is what makes you push them back, or move into your own new space. Without it we would have no boundaries.
My gut feeling is that the way you feel about the colour red can in some ways reflect how you feel about anger and passion. Are you numb to it? Are you enlivened by it?

This isn’t to make anyone wrong; I encourage you to just notice how it is for you today.
Years later I can say that rather than just an ‘angry’ colour, red feels juicy, passionate, and feminine. Menstrual blood feels like a beautiful and powerful colour.
I feel aroused by red! Sexuality is another meaning we often give to the colour, which I totally relate to now in a way I couldn’t see before healing my relationship to my body.
And yes, I sometimes have that shadowy feeling about it, but I know that is telling me how I truly feel about myself and the deeper levels of grounding that we are so often pulled away from.
The same goes for womb art. When you see it, are you activated to feel grossed out, or critical? Maybe you feel deeply drawn to it, but your mind judges at the same time. Or maybe you straight up love it. Whichever it is, it will reflect how you feel towards your menstrual cycle.
Here are my womb paintings so you can see how you feel. These are also available to buy, if you would love a womb reminder in your space ❤️
